Commitments
We buy to hold, not to sell.
Most owners of private companies are temporary. They arrive with a plan to leave. We intend to be the last owner of every business we acquire. That single fact shapes how we treat the people who sell to us and how we run what we hold. These are the commitments we are willing to be measured against.
To hold
We acquire to hold
There is no fund behind Aurelius, and so there is no clock. No fund life, no forced exit, no plan to pass the business to the next owner in five years. When we buy a company, we mean to keep it. That changes the decisions we make. We can invest in things that pay back over a decade rather than a quarter, and we can leave good things alone. A business that will never be sold is run differently from one being dressed up for sale.
To sellers
A fair offer, honoured
We make a fair offer and we stand behind it. We do not open high and chip the number away, and we do not use the process to wear a seller down. The price we agree is the price we intend to pay. If diligence uncovers something that genuinely changes the picture, we say so plainly and explain why, rather than re-trade quietly at the last moment.
To sellers
A clear timetable
Selling a company you have built is a large decision, and an open-ended process is hard on everyone in it. We do not drag deals out. We tell you early whether we are serious, we keep to a clear timetable, and we do the work needed to close on time. Your energy belongs in running the business, not in waiting on us.
To sellers
Thorough diligence
We look hard before we commit, because we are the ones who will live with what we buy. Diligence is thorough and it is honest. We ask direct questions and expect direct answers, and we would rather find a problem early than pretend it is not there. Done properly, this protects the seller as much as it protects us. It means the deal we sign is one that will hold.
To sellers
A clean process, a clean exit
A seller should be able to hand over the business and walk away well. We keep the process simple and the terms clear, we bury no surprises in the paperwork, and we honour what we agree. When the deal is done, it is done. You leave with certainty about what was promised and what was paid, and with the knowledge that the people and the name you are leaving behind are in careful hands.
As owner
Keep the people, keep the name, invest for the long term
The company we buy is the company we want. We keep the name over the door and the people who make it work, because they are the reason it is worth owning. We invest for the long term and spend with discipline, backing what strengthens the business and holding back where it would not. Our job as owner is quiet and steady: protect what is good, mend what is not, and be worthy of the trust of the person who handed it over.
